Project overview:
This internship in the UITS networking and telecommunications division at IU Northwest will assist the UITS team with long-term projects to make improvements to campus infrastructure. The team will be implementing a modern phone system, removing outdated systems, and getting an inventory of ports throughout campus. This internship would expose the student to various types of networking and telecommunications equipment, structured building wiring systems, PBX and digital telecommunications systems, multitasking and time management. They would experience hands-on work with network test equipment and structured cabling systems, and work with spreadsheets and databases. They will be doing discovery work throughout several buildings as they inventory network ports, so they need to be thorough and accurate. They will collaborate with two industry professionals with extensive experience, but in a relaxed and collaborative environment. There is ample opportunity to learn and grow as we work through these projects and share responsibilities. This internship would be appropriate for students with an interest in networking, telecommunications, cabling, operations, communications, project management and improving multitasking abilities.
