Regional campus Bepko internships
IU Northwest Network & Telecommunications Intern
Project overview: This internship in the UITS networking and telecommunications division at IU Northwest will assist the UITS team with long-term projects to make improvements to campus infrastructure. The team will be implementing a modern phone system, removing outdated systems, and getting an inventory of ports throughout campus. This internship would expose the student to various types of networking and telecommunications equipment, structured building wiring systems, PBX and digital telecommunications systems, multitasking and time management. They would experience hands-on work with network test equipment and structured cabling systems, and work with spreadsheets and databases. They will be doing discovery work throughout several buildings as they inventory network ports, so they need to be thorough and accurate. They will collaborate with two industry professionals with extensive experience, but in a relaxed and collaborative environment. There is ample opportunity to learn and grow as we work through these projects and share responsibilities. This internship would be appropriate for students with an interest in networking, telecommunications, cabling, operations, communications, project management and improving multitasking abilities.
eLearning Design & Services Intern
Project overview: This internship in UITS eLearning Design & Services will assist with building and coding components of MOOCs (Massively Open Online Courses) in support of IU’s partnership with the global education platform edX. The intern would use basic HTML skills to enter course content into the edX learning management system. The intern would also modify Python code to create activities that can be delivered within the courses that IU offers on edX. This internship would expose the student to coding with an instructional angle -- code that helps improve both self-directed learning and academic integrity of fully online courses delivered at scale. Additionally, a successful intern will be able to support beta-testing of courses and explore other extensions of the edX platform. This internship will expose a student to new horizons in online education and the MOOC space, a growing area for IU. The student will join regular brainstorming sessions with a team of professional instructional designers and technologists who support digital learning on the edX platform at IU. They will also engage in testing, discussion and implementation of educational technology applications tied to pedagogy at scale. Because this year’s internship is remote, it requires the ability to operate independently and report back on one’s work, as well as the key skills of critical thinking around systems and digital learning. This internship would be appropriate for students with an interest in instructional technology, education, computer science, or media/communications.
IU Print Intern
Project overview: This internship in the UITS Customer Services and Support Division will assist with support efforts for the IU Print Team. This internship would expose the student to working with different aspects within the IU Print team, including working with other divisions, and vendors associated to the University. The student would be given the opportunity to discuss and analyze current technologies in a professional setting outside of the classroom, and work closely with stakeholders on the IU Print team. This internship would be appropriate for students who are interested in Information Technology Support, and/or print management solutions.
